Calgary-based Village Brewery has launched a non-alcoholic craft beer in time for summer.
It’s among Western Canada’s first non-alcoholic beers and the Village Local is the first Alberta crafted beer to be sold in Western Canadian grocery stores, including Calgary Co-op. It’s also available in liquor stores across Alberta.
The company says it’s a pale ale made from local ingredients filled with the flavours of sweet Alberta caramel malt, two-row malted barley and hops that hint of citrus zest.
“Perhaps the most exciting thing about the Local is how many more community-based experiences we can be a part of,” said Tom Stuart, co-founder of Village Brewery, in a news release. “It’s important to us that while we remain a private enterprise, we operate as a social enterprise.”
He said the new brew, which is sure to be a hit at music festivals, outdoor activities, and community events, is right at the heart of what Village Brewery stands for – community.
Ten per cent of Village Brewery’s bottom line is invested back into the community to support Calgary’s artists, craftspeople, and change-makers each year. Village Brewery has continued to contribute to the local community since its inception in 2011.
“Village Brewery prides itself on community support and inclusion. The Village Local represents these principals in a meaningful and fun way,” said Avnish Mehta, Village Brewery Beer Baron. “We are really excited for the Local to join the Village lineup in the community this summer.”
The Local contains 0.3 per cent alcohol/volume, 35 calories and seven grams of carbs per can.
